2026-01-18.1_arguing with capitalists

one of the most ridiculous & frustrating / infuriating things about arguing with people that defend / believe in capitalism is how arrogant they are about “human nature” (without even noticing it most of the time).

as soon as you talk about the slightest bit of social security or people not having to constantly work to have basic needs met & how solidarity might actually be a thing it’s immediately: “well people just aren’t like that, they’re just selfish and lazy, that’s human nature.”

and then when you give them empirical examples that that isn’t / doesn’t have to be the case, they’re all just “exceptions”.

quick reminder, especially to the white teenagers and 20-somethings that keep making these argument to m(e) (and everyone else):
your experience is not the experience. and just because you sense of & belief in solidarity & empathy has been shattered by growing up within capitalism doesn’t mean everyone else’s has.
